What’s the Difference between West Palm Beach and Palm Beach?
West Palm Beach is one one side of the intracoastal (the waterway down the east coast of Florida) and Palm Beach is on the other side — the ocean side. Most people fly into PBI (Palm Beach International) and within 15 minutes, you are on Palm Beach Island. The beach resorts are all on Palm Beach island. Palm Beach is where most of the rich people live, including Donald Trump, Sylvester Stallone, and Jon Bon Jovi. Palm Beach is about 1 hour north of Fort Lauderdale. We are about 1.5 to 2 hours north of Miami, depending on the traffic. Honestly, I do not recommend flying into Miami for Palm Beach!!

The Breakers, a historic landmark in Palm Beach, is probably the most famous resort close to West Palm beach and offers an unparalleled luxury experience. One of the newest resorts in West Palm Beach is Amrit Ocean Resort, a luxury wellness retreat, offers a serene and rejuvenating experience. Located on Singer Island, just a short drive from Palm Beach Island, the resort boasts stunning oceanfront views. Guests can enjoy a variety of wellness amenities, including yoga classes, meditation sessions, and holistic spa treatments. The resort's accommodations are designed to promote relaxation and well-being, featuring natural materials and calming décor. With its focus on wellness, exceptional service, and prime location, this is a fabulous choice for a resort in West Palm Beach. I just did a site visit here and this would be a great choice for a mother-daughter trip, a girlfriend getaway, or for any sort of wellness vacation. There are many many multi-day wellness packages to choose from.
Marriott Ocean Pointe
If your goal is just to be by the beach and in the sunshine and you are not looking for anything fancy, the Marriott Ocean Pointe is a great choice. This hotel is also located on Singer Island. It is a Vacation Club property — a timeshare property, essentially. So the units are condo-like, making this a really good choice for a longer stay. The pools are great and this West Palm Beach resort boasts a family atmosphere. They even have a little barbecue area so you can cook your own food, which I think is so cool.
Other Resorts in West Palm Beach
These hotels aren’t really resorts but are worth consideration if you don’t need to be on the beach. Note I don’t find any of these options to be particularly family-friendly.
Brazilian Court Palm Beach: Lovely old school hotel in the heart of Palm Beach. Daniel Boulud oversees the kitchen. This is a Virtuoso property where I can VIP you. This hotel is not on the beach, but the Palm Beach public beach is right down the street.
The Ben in West Palm Beach: This hotel is a vibe. It has a great rooftop pool and lively bars and restaurants. It is not on the beach but it does overlook the intracoastal. This is a Marriott Stars & Luminous property where I can VIP you.
The Colony Hotel Palm Beach: This pink palace is quintessential Palm Beach! Love the wallpaper, love the vibe. They will even help set you up with a picnic on the beach, which is just a block or two away. (Depending on how you count blocks.) This is a Virtuoso property where I can VIP you.
Resorts Not Far from West Palm Beach
I’m going to include two resorts that are not in Palm Beach but are in South Florida and are worth a look. Both resorts are in locations that you are probably not considering!
The JW Marriott Turnberry has a huge pool, a lazy river, and a waterpark.
JW Marriott Turnberry
While not directly on the beach, the JW Marriott Turnberry in Aventura (south of Fort Lauderdale, north of Miami) offers a great family vacation experience. Its huge waterpark is a highlight, featuring towering slides, a lazy river, and a wave pool. This family resort also boasts multiple on-site dining options, from casual eateries to fine dining experiences. For those seeking relaxation, the spa offers a range of rejuvenating treatments. With its luxurious accommodations, top-notch amenities, and family-friendly atmosphere, the JW Marriott Turnberry is an ideal resort for families. The resort is also close to the Aventura Mall if you need to go shopping! I really love this resort and send a lot of families here.

We love a lazy river!! The Harborside Pool Club at The Boca Raton, a family-friendly resort in South Florida
The Boca Raton
The Boca Raton is about a 30 minute drive from Palm Beach International Airport. There are multiple properties that make up this one resort. Its stunning beachfront location provides direct access to the ocean, perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports. For younger guests, there’s a kids' club with engaging activities, a splash pad, and a pirate ship-themed play area. The Harborside Pool Club boasts a 450-foot lazy river, two water slides, and a FlowRider wave simulator for endless fun. With its luxurious accommodations, world-class amenities, and family-friendly atmosphere, The Boca Raton is an ideal resort for families considering a South Florida vacation.
