Mykonos & Santorini, Turks & Caicos, and Booking Awesome Tours

Waterfront dining in Mykonos, Greece

Tips for Visiting Mykonos & Santorini

Mykonos and Santorini are two of the most popular tourist destinations in Greece, and having been to both islands myself, I understand why: both islands offer stunning beaches, picturesque whitewashed buildings, and vibrant nightlife. Mykonos is known for its party scene and glamorous lifestyle, while Santorini's unique volcanic landscape and romantic sunsets make it a popular honeymoon destination.

This summer, visitors are particularly drawn to these islands after a year of travel restrictions and lockdowns. So these small islands will be more packed — and more expensive — than ever before. However, there are ways to save money. Consider visiting in the shoulder season, when prices are lower and crowds are smaller. (Travel in April/May/June or in September/October/November.) Booking accommodation and flights in advance can also save money. (Let me help you start planning for 2024 now!) Many restaurants offer lunch specials or set menus, which can be more affordable than dinner options. Instead of hiring a private boat, consider taking a public ferry to explore the islands.

A more cost-effective way to experience these islands is by cruiseship. Many cruises offer all-inclusive packages, which can be more affordable than staying on the islands themselves. Additionally, cruising allows you to visit other nearby islands without the hassle of booking separate accommodations and transportation.

Alternative islands in the Cyclades you should consider include Naxos, Paros, and Milos. Naxos has beautiful beaches, ancient ruins, and traditional villages. Paros is known for its laid-back atmosphere, traditional architecture, and great food. Milos has stunning beaches, colorful fishing villages, and unique geological formations. These islands are less crowded than Mykonos and Santorini and can offer a more authentic Greek island experience at a lower cost.

This isn’t just any beach: it’s Grace Bay in Turks & Caicos, known for its soft white sand

Why Turks & Caicos is So Hot Right Now

Turks & Caicos is one of my favorite destinations in the Caribbean. Here’s why…

  1. Beautiful beaches - Turks & Caicos boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, with powdery white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters. Grace Bay Beach, in particular, has been voted the best beach in the world multiple times. Honestly…I live in Florida and grew up by the beach in New York, but I have never experienced sand as soft and powdery as in Turks & Caicos.

  2. Range of accommodations - The islands are home to some of the most luxurious resorts and villas in the Caribbean, offering visitors an upscale and exclusive vacation experience. From private butlers to infinity pools overlooking the ocean, many of the accommodations are designed to provide the ultimate in relaxation and indulgence. This makes Turks & Caicos a great family destination because there are a number of villas to choose from.

  3. Outdoor activities - The islands offer a wide range of outdoor activities, from snorkeling and diving in the coral reefs to kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding in the calm waters. Visitors can also go whale watching, explore the national parks, or take a sunset cruise. The warm and sunny weather year-round makes Turks & Caicos a perfect destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

Wow is right! You want tours, I’ve got tours!

Booking Tours for Your Trip

As a travel advisor, I take pride in providing personalized services to my clients. Before booking any tours, I first do thorough research to ensure that they align with your interests and preferences. I also make it a point to get to know my clients through consultations, preparing me me to tailor my recommendations to your needs.

When it comes to booking tours, I have a few favorite options that I use for my clients. Tours by Locals is probably my  absolute favorite, as it offers private and personalized tours led by local guides. This is a great option for clients who want to immerse themselves in the local culture and get insider tips from a knowledgeable guide. The Tours by Locals model really focuses on finding you a great tour guide.

Another option I always check is Project Expedition, which offers a wide range of tours and activities in destinations around the world. The platform allows me to search and compare different tour options based on my clients' preferences, making it easy to find the perfect match. Project Expedition has the most options for tours, although the brand name probably isn’t as well known to the everyday consumer.

Finally, Viator is another go-to for booking tours, as it offers a vast selection of tours and activities at competitive prices. The platform has user-friendly features that make it easy to filter and book tours. Viator has improved their offering over the last year or two and now provides a lot more detail on what to expect during a tour, which is great. You can try out Viator below!
